The most dangerous part of the day is entering and exiting the track. There will be a mandatory focus on this during the first session.

When you enter the track hand signal as you are getting on. The Blue Line shows the possible path of riders who are already on the track.

The photo below shows the How to Enter COTA.

Green Line - Take the green line to enter COTA, stay to the left of the WHITE Blend Line.

Do Not Cross the Blend Line - This will result in a Black Flag

Turn 18 is where you will signal to exit the track. Repeat the hand signal "like a blinker". Stay to the left of the track once you begin to signal and hug Turn 19 and stay to the left to exit the track.

  • Do Not Change your Mind once you signal to exit
  • If you forgot to signal Do No Suddenly Pit do another lap to be safe

Rules & Passing Etiquette

We have just 3 Golden Rules β€” these will be reviewed in the riders meeting. Be ready to answer them out loud:

  1. Respect Everyone.
  2. Pass Safely.
  3. Don’t Try to Prove Anything.

Aggressive riding gets ONE warning. Second offense = ejection without refund.

ABCs & 123s of Passing

  • A – Always look where you want to go
  • B – Be aware of two riders beyond the one you’re passing
  • C – Passes must be: Clean, Courteous, and Complete

COTA Helmet Mounted Camera Rules

COTA prohibits helmet mounted cameras. COTA will black flag any rider with a helmet mounted camera and the rider will have to pit in and remove it.

Cameras mounted to the bike are required to be tethered. With GoPro cameras best practice is to tether the case. The camera shown below shows the most common point of failure with GoPro camera mounts. If the mount fails and the case is not properly tethered the camera will be lost.

Searching for lost cameras is at the discretion of COTA officials at the end of the day.
